Description
Drug-resistant T. indotineae, first emerging in India, was confirmed in four Malaysian cases. Patients were identified in Kuala Lumpur and Perak through skin scrapings, KOH microscopy, and ITS sequencing. Unlike typical Trichophyton infections, extensive inflammation covering >50% body surface area was observed, with persistence beyond three months and household transmission patterns. Travel history was reported by only one patient, while three had no travel history, suggesting local transmission. White, cottony colonies with radial growth were produced by isolates. Good response to itraconazole therapy was documented among multiple patients. (2025-04-06)
